Pitt's community partnerships have led to many innovative efforts, a number of which were firsts in the nation. The outcomes speak for themselves. New cases of AIDS in Allegheny County have declined 30 percent due in part to the University's AIDS Free Pittsburgh partnership. Ninety-five percent of those trained at Pitt's Manufacturing Assistance Center have found meaningful work. Five hundred individuals gained access to legal representation last year because of the School of Law’s legal clinics.
And that’s only the beginning. Pitt's Community Engagement Report (PDF) presents a sampling of those and other activities.
Quality of Life & Social Services
Pitt community clinics, tax assistance programs and education projects serve community organizations, police departments, incarcerated students, senior citizens and low-income residents.
Health & Wellness
Faculty members and students provide health care to the medically underserved and uninsured through free health screenings and Pitt's dental, pharmacy and family medicine clinics.
Strengthening Cultural Arts
Pitt provides a wide range of community services in the humanities through its Center for African American Poetry and Poetics, its Veterans Writers Workshops, and other programs.
Enriched Learning & Youth Development
The University supports public school students and teachers through immersive STEM education and research programs, advocacy for underrepresented student groups and refugees, equipment loans and college preparatory programs, among other services.

A regional data center, workshops and management consulting are among the services that Pitt provides to the region's nonprofit sector.
