Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Ongoing volunteer opportunities are those that may not be limited to a particular date, time, or location but instead require continued support for the communities and individuals they impact.

With your help, we can ensure that every community and community member are able to thrive. You are encouraged to check back as this list will be updated as more opportunities become available.

Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy Park Stars

Volunteer to be a Park Star, and advocate for Pittsburgh's wonderful park places. As a non-profit organization, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy has limited resources and staffing to be in every neighborhood and every park. Park Stars are critical to rally the awareness and support needed to ensure that all Pittsburghers have access to vibrant parks.

Park Stars are connectors. As a trusted source of information for their friends and neighbors, they have the power to inspire communities to not only care about parks, but to connect them with those who can affect change, such as local officials and politicians. Volunteers will support the parks through active engagement with friends, family, local elected officials, media, community members, and anyone who benefits from a strong park system.

Visit the Park Stars website to learn more about the program or apply.

CHS Food Pantry

The Community Human Services (CHS) Food Pantry needs volunteers to assist during preparation and distribution each week. This involves sorting food (including overripe produce), stocking shelves, preparing the indoor market, and assisting families. It may include heaving lifting of up to 50 lbs, but it is not required. Customer service skills are important as volunteers may be assisting families directly. Understanding different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds is helpful.

Volunteers are needed on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. If interested in volunteering, please contact Mattie Johnson by emailing mjohnson@chscorp.org or calling 412-246-1600, ext. 1723.
